serving memphis

For even the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve...

Mark 10:45

First Assembly loves Memphis! As a church, we offer many opportunities to serve within our local community and within our church. We believe that we are most like Christ when we are serving others. Take a look at the many service and volunteer opportunities we offer. Your involvement makes a difference!

Serve in our community.

The Father’s Food Closet is a ministry that provides food assistance to individuals and families that are in need. Current statistics show that over 370,000 people in the Memphis Mid-South Area are food insecure, meaning they lack access to a sufficient quantity of food to meet their own or their family’s needs. Of those 370,000 people, over 100,000 are children and 75,000 are elderly. As a ministry, we seek to show and share the love of Jesus by meeting one of the most basic human needs—food. As a volunteer with FFC, you will have the opportunity to pack grocery bags, stock shelves, keep the pantry tidy, take food to cars on our monthly distribution day and pray with our food pantry guests. We also accept food donations in our drop-off box located in the church lobby. We have service opportunities that can fit into any schedule. Will you help us in our mission to eliminate hunger in our community?
The primary purpose of Royal Family Kids Camp is to give foster children ages 7-11 a week of positive memories and royal treatment in a Christian camp environment. Our camp consists of volunteers who give of themselves to invest in the lives of hurting children that are currently in the Shelby County foster care system. During our week at camp, each camper receives individualized attention, participates in activities designed for his or her success and shares positive interactions with caring, trained adults. For most of our campers, this week at camp is the best week of their entire year. If you are interested in partnering with us to share God’s love with these hurting children, we invite you to apply to join our team!
Sidewalk Sunday School is a summer ministry, serving the Alcy-Ball community in South Memphis. Each Saturday morning, our team gathers at Alcy Park to play outdoor games, teach a short program with a Bible lesson and scripture verse and share a snack with the local children from the neighborhood. Throughout the summer, we have themed weeks that include a birthday party, multiple cookouts, lessons on self-respect and a back-to-school event where we give backpacks to all the children who have registered with us. In addition to our summer program, we also have a fall event in October with face-painting, food and a coat drive, as well as, a special event in December where we share the good news of Christ’s birth and give each child a Christmas gift. If you have a heart to share God’s love with the children and families of the Alcy-Ball community, we would love for you to join our team!

Serve in our church.

Use your unique gifts to help build the Kingdom.

FA Kids
FA Kids is designed to teach kids about Jesus on their level in a safe, fun environment. Each week, children ages 6 weeks to 5th grade are taught the Bible in a creative, age-appropriate way while building relationships with adult volunteers. You can serve as part of the FA Kids team once a month, once a week or just fill-in based on your availability. We have opportunities to serve each Sunday, Wednesday and at many special events throughout the year. If you love working with children, we have a place for you!
One Student Church
OSC exists to reach 6th through 12th grade students and connect them to God, to each other and to their purpose in life. If you love middle and high school-aged students, OSC is a great place to serve. Our youth services are every Wednesday night at 6:30 pm. Consider volunteering as a weekly youth leader or chaperoning one of our many trips and events. We would love for you to get involved!
Fusion Ministry
The Fusion Ministry seeks to provide opportunities of prayer and fellowship for church members who have been unable to attend our services and events due to seasons of illness or life change. Through social visits, phone calls, cards, prayer and communion, we aim to ensure that these members continue to feel part of the First Assembly family. If you have a heart to serve these individuals, we encourage you to get involved today!
Mums
Mums is a ministry dedicated to inspiring, refreshing and affirming mothers of preschool and school aged children. We meet every 1st and 3rd Wednesday at 10:30 am. If you are an experienced mother looking to inspire and encourage younger moms, we would love for you to join us as a mentor!
Recreation
The recreation department exists to create a Christ-honoring and fun environment for athletes of all ages and levels of experience. We offer year-round opportunities to serve as a coach, assistant coach, or referee for multiple sports. Most teams have scheduled weekly practices and games. If you enjoy working with children and are interested in teaching sport fundamentals, as well as, the value of sportsmanship, teamwork and integrity, we invite you to get involved!
Guest Services
Volunteers in Guest Services specialize in hospitality and helping people feel welcome at First Assembly Memphis. From the moment a person steps onto our property until the time they leave, Guest Services help people feel welcomed in our church. There are opportunities to serve before, during, and after all of our Sunday services.
Technical Team
The Technical Team uses creativity and technology to create an atmosphere in which our church family is able to whole-heartedly participate in each worship service. Whether you have experience in audio, lighting, video production, or simply just have an interest in the production side of our worship services, we would love for you to join our team!
